Renovation starts soon!
House renovation will start soon! Last week, the Kerrville City Council approved the design build agreement to complete the renovation of the A.C. and Myrta Schreiner house for the Heritage Center’s future site. The renovation is in good hands with Marksmen General Contractors, LLC and Fisher Heck Architects. Marksmen’s President & CEO, Mark Baublit, was at the City Council meeting and said his team is ready to get started at the site as soon as the city gives them the go ahead on October 22. After eight years of planning, we are about to see the hammers swing.
Construction could be completed as early as October 31, 2025. Once exhibits are installed, we will have a grand opening.
What’s great about Baublit leading the project? He was born and raised in Kerrville, is a Tivy graduate, and has been working in the construction industry in San Antonio for his entire career. Mark visits town frequently to see his mom, family, and to catch up with friends. You might recognize the Baublit name because of Baublit’s Jewelers on Water Street, which has been a family business for decades. His uncle Dayton Baublit still runs the store. We love that this Kerrville native is renovating the A.C. and Myrta Schreiner house and transforming into a community gathering place for all of Kerr County to enjoy!
But that’s not all that’s been happening. In case you missed our news earlier this year about starting to plan exhibits, our board and key community stakeholders have been providing input to Quatrefoil Associates to inform exhibits for the Heritage Center. Quatrefoil and a board committee collaborated throughout the spring and summer to develop an exhibit concept design that respects the history of the house and incorporates immersive and engaging historical exhibits that celebrate the unique history of Kerr County. The concept design has inspired fresh ideas for community programs and events to engage visitors of all ages. We can’t wait to share more with you as the design develops!
