Kerrville: A City Built on Cypress Trees
Anyone who has experienced a Texas thunderstorm understands the importance of a good roof. The city of Kerrville in its current form began as a place to support the roofing industry.
How? With shingles made from the majestic cypress trees along the banks of the Guadalupe River. Many of the town's oldest trees were cut down by this industry, but guests can still see some larger trees on the River Trail extension between G Street and Schreiner University.
Today, the river continues draw visitors to the city with its natural beauty. The trees that were once a commodity to be harvested now provide a source of inspiration and respite from the busy pace of urban spaces like San Antonio or Austin.
